Right now, I'm thinking about the mechanics that completely changed the way we play games. For me, it's got to be the 'cover system' in Gears of War. It does add a whole new layer of strategy and realism to the game. What are some of your favorites?

Portal's portal gun is definitely up there for me . I’m so excited with the thrill of being able to create portals to navigate through different levels. It was indeed a game-changer.

That's a great one there! I also think of the 'jump' mechanic in Super Mario. It's simple and very effective. What got to me is the precision and control it offers and it's still very relevant to this day.
 
I still enjoy the hook shot setup from the Zelda series, still fun to figure out where you can zip to and just get around quicker or pick up items.
