Do you think having a huge social media following is one of them?

Is being an “influencer” on social media starting to feel overhyped to you too?

And what about the rise of AI systems, especially when it comes to generating art (not real art) or even creating games? Do you think that’s being pushed a little too hard?

What are some of the things you feel are just overused, played out, or straight-up overrated online?

Do you think we’ll ever go back to the kind of internet we used to know, where it was more about community, originality, and real conversation, or is that version of the web long gone at this point?

Social media is overrated. In the blink of an eye your content could be removed at any moment with no chance of getting it back. Look at MySpace for example, due to poor server management once servers went down they were only able to save some aspects of the site so many people lost images and videos that they can never get back if they only posted it to that platform.

I think cryptocurrency is overrated. The hype around it exceeds what it is practically capable of doing for people. I don't like how to fluctuate so fast.

How can you say that cryptocurrency is overrated? I'm sure you know the worth value of BTC when it was launched. How much is BTC today?

AI seems to the internet's favorite buzz now. Even in places it doesn't really make sense.
Especially with the rise of video making and graphics(poor). It grinds my gears. It doesn’t belong with graphics and its quite ridiculous to see videos being made with it.

A lot of sites are using it for their moderation and support systems, which I don’t agree with either. Automatic systems don’t help anyone involved. A support system needs actual humans along with moderation.

I’m also not a fan of Google’s new AI overview’s smh. It’s ridiculous.

There’s also some making music with it, which is also dumb. We don’t need that in the music industry either.🤦🏿‍♂️

I agree. Once Tom sold Myspace, it was a downhill spiral and proof that you never really own your content on someone else’s platform.

Relying on sites like Facebook, Medium, or Substack to house your work is risky. Even hosting on WordPress.com or Blogger can burn you if their servers ever go down or policies suddenly change. If you’re not hosting your content on your own domain and backing it up, you’re basically building a house on rented land.

Too many creators don’t have a Plan B—or even backups. One outage, one policy shift, and years of work can vanish overnight.

These days, it’s not expensive to spin up your own site, grab a decent Host, and take full control of your content. Hopefully we’ll start seeing more creators move back to owning their platforms instead of chasing reach on platforms that could disappear tomorrow.

There isn’t any regulation with crypto currency, so the prices tend to fluctuate all the time. It’s nowhere near the stock market. It’s not a stable market, but when it does well, there’s a lot of profit in it.

I think those whom have the knowledge of how to be trading cryptocurrency make more profit from it more than those who buy, hold and sell when the price appreciates.

@cpvr The volatility and the lack of regulations in Cryptocurrency remain a matter of concern. I believe, however, that blockchain technology, which is the foundation of cryptocurrency, might have other uses beyond digital currency. So, it’s still very relevant.

@cpvr AI could be used for good but bad actors are already using it for profit. I feel like people are using it as a easy way to make content without having to actually do the work and sacrifice it takes to make something and it shows in the end product.

AI, crypto, hyperscalability (the idea that every project has to be made for a potential userbase of the whole planet, it kills so many projects), social media, "web3", influencers...and...the one that will get me into a fight...roblox.

Seriously, what bad actors can do with AI scares me more than the good things AI can be used to achieve. I watched G20 recently, and I was shocked with what they did using AI in the movie.

It’s honestly absurd what some people are doing with AI. The fake movies, the manipulated images—it’s getting out of hand. It’s one thing to use the tech to create something cool or useful, but the whole thing when it’s used to mislead people or blur the line between real and fake. I really hope more platforms start cracking down on that stuff before it spirals any further.🤦🏿‍♂️

I’ve seen how AI’s been able to solve medical issues that doctors haven’t figured out yet, and even crack problems scientists were still trying to understand. That’s the kind of stuff I think AI was really made for and that’s where it actually helps people.

But when people start using it to mass-produce content just to flood the internet, it kills the independent creative process. It turns the web into a mess of low-effort, soulless stuff. You can tell when something didn’t come from actual time, effort, or sacrifice.

I honestly think regular creators will start overtaking again soon. Especially if more people start watermarking their work and standing out with originality. People get tired of the noise eventually.

AI can’t produce anything without being fed someone else’s content first. That’s its biggest weakness.

It’s the hype of the world right now, but I honestly don’t think it’ll last forever on the internet. It’ll probably be around for the next couple of years then fade away.

Companies will more than likely run out of money powering their bots and decide to shut them down or move to something else.

The biggest problem is being able to find out such deep fake contents are not real because they are made to look so real.

Such can be used to frame someone big and it can actually be used to start a war.

I hope companies start rolling out systems that detect fake ai videos and label them as such. They’re annoying. I’ve seen a lot of these videos go viral and some truly believe that they’re real.

I know there’s a new law that’s being pushed called “Take it down” and this may have effect on AI videos gaining popularity as some of the people behind them will now face consequences.

The hype surrounding cryptocurrency is more than what anyone could make trading. I mean, unless you are a full-time trader, there is little that you can do in terms of making gains trading cryptocurrency.

@Henrywrites Exactly, not only is it a matter of volatility but also of environmental impact and the fact that there is not even a single real-world use case for most of them. All the promises made to revolutionize finance seem to me to be truly exaggerated compared to what they can accomplish.

People lay too much emphasis on likes and followers count on social media. I think it is so overrated and it actually portrays that they are prioritizing metrics over meaningful interaction and quality of the content.
I hope that one day that followers/likes are removed from all social media platforms. They’re a metric that don’t really matter.

I know that Instagram recently rolled out a new feature where you’re able to hide your view count and likes from other users, which I feel is a good step in the right direction. Especially since it gives users more control over their accounts.

Exactly my point. If you don't know the way through trading, it will be difficult for you and there will be much loss for you. There's a very big need to master how to trade before investing your all in there.

The major cause is the obsession for going viral and what the failed to understand is that it only brings temporary fame and attention but within a short while, it will disappear.
