Battle royale, survival crafting, and auto battlers all started as small niches before becoming mainstream. What conditions allow a niche genre to explode in popularity? Does it come from innovation, accessibility, or strong community adoption?

A gaming niche grows into a major genre when it proves it’s fun, repeatable, and scalable. I think strong core mechanics, streamer visibility, and community adoption determine whether the game will stay relevant or not.

A gaming niche grows into a major genre from innovation and unique ness along with a strong community adoption. PBBG Games, Pet Games, Sim games are strong prime examples of these, as they've provided unique ness and innovation over the years.

Crafting is also a strong suite of RPG games, which we saw a rise back in the day in the early 2000's, but these features are also now apart of other niches as well.

Most niches also see a rise when they're fun and provide a ton of entertainment to users as well.

However, generally speaking when the community aspect is stronger than the game play elements, a niche can grow a lot stronger than any other niche. The community can make or break a niche.

It has to be about innovation and strong community adoption. A gaming niche that has strong community activities will keep growing overtime and it can even get even bigger if the publishers keep creating new content for the game or building new games that possess the core factors that makes a good game.

I think that's because of the love for the game. If the game please players, it will grow into a major title. For instance, Minecraft started as an indie game, and now it is the most played game on the planet.
