Gaming addiction can definitely lead to neglection of partners, friends, and family and this can cause feelings of abandonment and resentment. It's very important to maintain a balance. What's the impact of gaming addiction on relationships?

I've seen gaming addiction damage lots of relationships due to the lack of communication. It's important to make sure that you prioritize quality time with loved ones.

Gaming addiction makes it so you don't have a social life. All you want to do is play games.

Also, gaming addiction can also lead to trust issues because partners may feel deceived or ignored.

It all depends on your partner. If she is into gaming as well, then you are luckly. If she is not, it's most likely going to fail. You can't give more value to a game than to your future wife who might even give you kids. It can't be compared. It's so childish to choose game over woman.

I have been addicted to gaming that caused me a lot which leads to resenting my friends, hiding from my responsibilities and my relationship didn't work the way I wanted but I am better and still getting better.

In my recent relationships, my gaming has suffered, not my relationship.
It's the way things are supposed to be. If the gaming will not make your relationship better, it's good for it to suffer while your relationship thrive.

When you’re able to recognise the problem, that's absolutely the first step to getting out of it. I’ve never been addicted to gaming anyways.

I hope that you will be able to grow out of this difficult situation. It's not a good one at all. It's like departing and detaching from reality which is important.

Did you go into the relationship as a gamer?

I would partially blame the partner for accepting it and then changing their mind though. There's give/take though, so this is a hard one...

I am doing my best and I am at the peak of being a normal me that I was before I get addicted. Things started feeling as if I'm going round the stars and everywhere is dark. It's never good to be addicted to things at all.

Yeah, I am a step ahead. For us to be saved, we need to know where the problem is coming from. I am getting myself back to normacy. Thanks for your concern though.

Maintain the good attitude towards this and never lose the sight of what you're working towards getting better at.

As long as what you have is a negative addiction, it's definitely going to affect every aspect of your life. It can destroy your love life relationship and personal relationship with others.

That's the truth. You won't even have time to be eating healthy once you are addicted to playing games. It will negatively impact on a lot of things that you do.

Thanks for your concern. I am doing my best and also trying to make other aspects of my life to be better.

Exactly! It's why I don't allow myself slip into a very bad addiction because falling into it is easy but getting out is very difficult.

If you are in relationship with someone who does not play games but you do a lot of gaming, I am sure it will affect your relationship negatively. However, if you are in relationship with a gamer, you both can play games and in the mean time explore love. 😀

I agree. It's a lot more fun when your partner has similar interests to you, so there isn't any too much negatively from playing games. You can also play against each other, which makes the relationship even more exciting.:woo:

Getting married to someone who shares your passion and interest or respects your passion and interest, life will be easier. My wife does not share my passion and interest (she doesn't play games) but she respects my passion, so life is easier for me. 😀

Now, when Hogwarts Legacy came out in 2023, I knew it would be easy for me to get lost in that game once I got it. However, I only allowed myself to play that game on my days off. I didn't want to miss going to work or make myself late or even stay up late when I had to be at work the next morning. If I thought I was going to have a problem, I would have given the game to my husband and asked him to only let me have it if it was my day off from my job.

I’ve had it strain things. During an MMO grind I’d skip dinners and say I was almost done, which killed trust fast. What helped was a nightly cutoff, no gaming in the bedroom, and one screen free day weekly. I tracked hours with Screen Time and we did a few counseling sessions to reset expectations. If it feels more like addiction, getting outside support can help. A relative did a residential program for alcohol and the structure plus aftercare really steadied home life. You could speak with the Abbeycare rehab clinic in confidence.

For someone like me that enjoyed playing video games against the AI majorly, gaming addiction really affected my relationships with family members. And it also made me to lose some romantic partners. That is because when I entered the mood of gaming, I was didn't listen to any other person. I would stand off my family members and even my girlfriends because I was engrossed for hours in a game.

Truely, it's going to be a serious problem when both partners are not into playing video games. One person will have to suffer at the expense of the love.

Yeah, that’s a tough one. If one person is deep into gaming and the other isn’t, it can really cause distance. I once had a friend whose partner hated how much time he spent on FIFA, and it honestly strained things badly between them.
