Some indie titles stay hidden for years, then suddenly gain massive attention through short-form clips or streamer picks. What actually drives this shift in discovery? Is it timing, algorithm boosts, or audience fatigue with AAA games?

Social media sites are the biggest promoters of different brands. It's not only in the gaming industry TikTok and other platforms help to blow up a brand. Upcoming music artist rely heavily on TikTok for their musical promotion nowadays.

I think it's timing, for example when Animal Crossing New Horizons came out in 2020, it so happens most of the world was in a lockdown and we couldn't leave our houses. This game became super popular with gamers and non gamers. Sometimes the algorithm just picks up random videos of a game that went under the radar, then all of a sudden people see how cool the game is and it gets popular.

I think indie games explode when they create instantly shareable moments. I also believe that games with unique mechanics or strong reactions spread fast because algorithms reward curiosity and community excitement amplifies visibility.

I'd honestly say it's timing, and their followers. Some games tend to have a large and loyal user base that like & share their videos, which helps creates massive attention through short-form clips.

The algorithms favors' channels that pick up stream from watch time, and likes/shares. I also think it boils down to timing and algorithm boasts, but that depends.

Comments also play a huge part if a video gets pushed out to the masses as well. However, sometimes a blog may discuss an idie title as well, which can help them gain traction as well, or a bigger Youtube channel.

One of the actions that could drive such is influencers. Some influencers might have that natural love for a particular game, and streaming it on TikTok, for instance, could get many of their followers want to try the same game.

When it comes to making a game popular, social media has a great role to play. When a certain game becomes popular on social media through content sharing, it creates a snowball effect on game distribution platforms like Steam or Epic.

A streamer or viral clip can give a game its first big push, but the algorithm keeps it spreading if people engage with it. At the same time, many players are looking for something different from big-budget releases, so a unique indie game can suddenly find the right audience at the right time.
