Many competitive gamers focus intensely on a single title for years. Is mastery the main motivation, or does the competitive ladder and community create long-term commitment?

Competitive players usually stick to one main game because mastery takes time and repetition. Deep understanding of mechanics, timing, and meta gives them an edge.

Switching games resets that progress, so they focus on consistency, ranking, and skill refinement in a single environment.

There is a simple explanation on why people who play competitive games stick to one game. They have build their skills and knowledge around the game and they want to perform better.

If you keep playing the same thing, then you get better at it. It's how most get pretty skilled at the game.

You get better the more you play a single game. Speed runners will often do the same things that competitive gamers do, play a game over and over again and practice tricks to get faster at the game. It's better to focus on one game at a time rather than play a bunch of different games.

As long as a game doesn't have a lot of bugs, I support this idea that players get better when they focused on one game over time. You now know the in and out of the game and that makes playing games a sweet encounter.
