Recently, I read a study that said Gen Zs are drowning in debt because they are spending too much. Well, spending too much is also a problem with other generations. I believe people spend too much because of temptation, they are tempted to buy things they don’t really need, or purchase items just to impress others. This unnecessary spending drains resources and they cannot save or invest. People who struggle to save usually spend a large portion of their income on non-essential items like fancy gadgets, eating out, or trendy clothes.

Because no one ever taught them how to save money, plus I blame everyone going to Starbucks everyday.

It's because as long as one is alive, hunger, desire, needs and wants never stop. Sadly, many people can't control their impulses at spending.

People often spend too much because money is emotional, not just practical. Buying things can feel like reward, escape, identity, or even progress. Add easy payments, constant advertising, and social comparison, and it becomes easy to justify purchases.

Impulse purchases are what many neglect, especially as we are in the era where cashback and discounts are being structured in a way that consumers are encouraged to spend more.

I am not even surprised because the art of marketing has become better to the stage where consumers are ready to spend more even on items that they don't need just to feel like they belong in the society.

It's because they have the money to do so. I haven't seen anyone spending the money they don't have unless in cases of those who make use of credit cards.

Indeed. I know that I love to spend money on chips, candy, and fast food. Especially when I'm bored, or when I want to splurge on a weekend, or have a cheat day on my diet. :dabbing:

The cost of inflation also has caused the rise of money going in and out. Years ago, some would spend a lot less on chips, food and the like. Some of this things also come with a lot more AIR than actual product.

But now, we spend a lot more money on the simple things that bring us joy and pleasure.

Some people are just wired for instant gratification. And that is the reason that they spend too much. They just want to have the thrill of their cravings and would overspend for that thrill.

I feel one major reason people spend is due to peer pressure. They tend to want to impress those around them, that they end up spending too much.
