Certain games evolve beyond gameplay and become places where players socialize regularly. Is this driven by guild systems, voice chat, shared goals, or persistent worlds that keep players connected?

Some multiplayer games become social platforms because interaction becomes the main value, not just gameplay.
They offer chat, customization, shared spaces, and events, so players hang out, not just compete.

If I see someone who plays a similar game like I do and we get along, I won't mind checking the server every day just to talk to them. It has gone beyond playing games at that point and now also about chatting with a friend that I've met on the server.

When you get enough people on your platform, people just start hanging out and socialize.

That's right. Once the content being put out is quality and engaging, more people will always log in to the server, and from there, they can become better friends.

Yep, so long as they have the time and money to do so.

It's sad really that we now need money in order to be able to play most of the games that we wish to enjoy. It wasn't the case in the past.
