I believe classic games continue to be popular because they stimulate nostalgia for many who grew up playing them. Their straightforward game mechanics make them accessible, and leaves a lasting cultural influence, among other reasons. What additional points could be added to this list?

Some people might also prefer older games because they are more difficult. Back in the day, developers really had a knack for making games difficult and I think it had something to do with video game rentals. I believe they made the games more difficult so that those who rented these games would either continue to rent it until they beat them, or went out and bought the games because of that.

In my opinion, I believe there are some reasons why it's still very popular. One of the reasons are gameplay and the nolstagia. Those classic games are always nice and the characters are very familiar with us.

Because they are actually fun and video games, not these live action looking games they release today.

I believe that many of these games are simply better because a lot went into its development and due to the fact that they are old school, simple, and fun to play. Most of them were more blurred with focus on deeper mechanics.

They don't require as much thought, and are generally easier to play. Also, people have memories playing the classic games, and that's why I think they still play them.

They’re fun and don’t contain as many microtransactions as most games today. They were also created with more creativity, fresh ideas, and passion. Nowadays, many developers rush their projects instead of taking the time to develop their games properly.

That's right! The classics have something that is very unique and we don't seem to find that traits in contemporary games. The game always have a very perfect storytelling with its addictive gameplay structures

Most of those classic games were the pioneers of different features in the genre. That's why people still find it hard to move away from them. Think of a classic game like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina that was the pioneer of Open world simulation. It would be very difficult for hard-core gamers to stop playing it completely.

Some classic games have timeless quality because their gameplay still hold up with players to this day.

Classic games tend to remain popular because their gameplay is classic, are nostalgic, and due to their relevance in the game industry.

I think classic games stay popular because they’re simple, memorable, and easy to return to. I’d probably revisit them for the nostalgia, familiar mechanics, and straightforward fun. They often focus on solid gameplay instead of complexity, which gives them lasting appeal.
