There were only a few layoffs and none of them were developers, so it's unlikely that that had anything to do with the cancelation of WoN.
Also, World of Neopets is something that was first started alongside the NFT project. It was another venture capitalism project based on blockchain technology. Ie something that was designed with money-making in mind, not player satisfaction or entertainment.
Additionally, with how poorly the NFT project went, I can only imagine what a travesty WoN would have been. Probably better to regroup and focus on the existing suffering technologies and not try to introduce more chaos.”

Sort of yes and sort of no, here's a quick breakdown:
Neopets Metaverse received roughly $4mil in funding, not sure if this was guaranteed cash value, if it was just pledged money, or if it was an equivalent value of SOL from investors, but here's some info on that:

Whatever happened to that money, we have no idea. Unused funds may have gone back to investors on cancelation of the project. It's also possible that the funding was used to recoup the losses from the NFT launch, but that's just me speculating (and is probably unlikely).
JN did a great breakdown of the NFT launch and sales. The final sales totaled around 4,200 NFTs sold, which is less than half of the available 10,000 hence why I'd personally consider that to be a huge flop-- also factoring in that there were originally supposed to be 20,000 available for purchase but they doped it down to 10k instead. Final Wrap: Metaverse Sells 4,233 NFTs
The current value of one Solana token at the time of the JN article was about $240 USD. Today, it is valued at $170, however at the official time of cancelation of WoN (which was in 2023, not sure why they waited until now to wipe all traces of it off the site), one SOL was only worth $21 USD. This is obviously a massive loss in funds unless they had already cashed out immediately, or hopefully they chose to hold onto it all. So to answer your question, it is possible they lost an astronomical amount of money despite intially making $2.1mil in sales, depending on what they chose to do with the SOL tokens.”
It is possible that TNT may try to bring back the World of Neopets project and eventually finish it, but for now, it is no longer coming soon.
