X/Twitter is planning to launch a monetization service that will allow video creators to earn money on the platform, similar to YouTube.

What are your thoughts on this? If you’re a content creator, will you use X/Twitter to make money from your videos, or will you stick with YouTube?

X could easily take market share cause Google is stingy with revenue share.

All X would need to do is do a 40-60 split and could draw in a lot of content creators. Or, go as high as 60% and Google could never compete.

I don't know if X could fund that though because the infrastructure for handling so much data would be incredibly expensive to upkeep.

Shame that Twitter is killing its user base of late, heard they are making all art posted a property of the site and can be used in AI.

According to this article, Twitter can now use everyone’s content to train their AI https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/21/tech/x-twitter-terms-of-service/index.html

When X unveiled its newest terms of service, which go into effect on November 15, users quickly picked up on one change.

“By submitting, posting or displaying Content on or through the Services, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to make your Content available to the rest of the world,” the terms of service said, which includes the right to analyze any of that content “including, for example, for use with and training of our machine learning and artificial intelligence models, whether generative or another type.”

Basically, by continuing to use the platform, users will agree that X can use their data to train its AI models.
Musk has been slowly killing the platform since he took it over.

Which isn’t a good thing, so now
A lot of artists are moving over to Bluesky because of this move. Twitter is also losing members due to the removal of their blocking features where users can still see your posts if you have them blocked.

By giving exclusive rights to their content, what would normal users benefit from X? You do not get revenue share as a free user, just for allowing users to use its space, they are asking for a lot of things. As far as video monetization is concerned, I believe if they introduce less strict monetization rules, they might succeed.

Shame, Twitter should and could have stood the test of time, but nope, just went down the hole.
I agree. They are a lot of users leaving Twitter in a massive wave as of late. There were over 115,000 users that deactivated their accounts on November 6th alone. Media companies like The Guardian and former news hosts Dom Lemon have also left.

“On November 6, more than 115,000 web visitors in the U.S. deactivated their X accounts, Similarweb found — “more than on any previous day of Elon Musk’s tenure, during which many users who disagreed with his politics or his style have threatened to leave the service.”

If history has taught us anything... Unfortunately, it's not a public company to invest in or I would have taken a position in it.

It was a good idea to invest in Reddit two months ago. Their stock was $45-$60 a share. Its now $131.30 a share and up 76.15% in the past month.

Welp this certainly hasn't helped the site. So many people have been jumping ship, and it's about time they did. Twitter has been terrible since Elon took over, and all the AI shenanigans certainly didn't make the site any better.

I might start to do some videos on my Twitter's account. But what the OP didn't tell us is the criteria that we need to get monetized. Anyone with an answer?

You’ll have to get verified and upgrade to X’s premium services in order to get monetized.
