Hello!

I'm new to this virtual pet site forum, but I've been playing VPS since the early 2000's. I've been learning frontend coding and MySQL lately because I have an interest in changing my career to a front end developer. I also have a hobby side project of developing a pet breeding game where I can test things I learn and also just express myself creatively. It's really mostly just a concept right now and I keep changing stuff along the way but here are some examples of the things I've been working on:

Learning about CSS/html

Hey @BerrieStrawberrie, welcome to VPL! Your pet designs look great. 😁

We also have a sneak peek forum where you can showcase your upcoming project whenever it’s ready!

What pet sites do you like to play? Is there any particular one that inspired you to start working on your own pet site?😁

Oh that's a good idea I should make a post there with some of my ideas for features and things although it's constantly changing.

My favorite pet site games were Ponyisland and Wajas. I've always really enjoyed the breeding games where you can make your own combinations and pattern designs. Although I've also liked other pet sites like Marapets that play more like Neopets. I would honestly like to combine all my favorite features from both games but I'm just starting to learn so right now it's a hobby really.

I recommend using the Laravel framework for PHP/MySQL. It's easy to learn if you have a basic understanding of PHP/MySQL, and saves a lot of time with pre-built in functions.

I can totally relate! It happens to me a lot when I write new things and try to come up with new concepts.

I’m a fan of breeding games as well. I haven’t played Wajas yet, but I’ve played Aywas and Flight Rising. I also play Marapets. It’s been quite some time since I last played Neopets, though.

That would be really interesting to see, and it’s a great idea to create a pet site like that.

Oh really?

I'll definitely look into that. I haven't been able to enroll in school yet so I'm just learning on my own but I've been thinking I need to start learning more about frameworks so I can build better/faster.

Thank you all! I plan to stick around for a bit it's nice to find other people that enjoy pet sites especially since I'm not currently playin one.

Welcome to the forum, @BerrieStrawberrie !

I've been learning frontend coding and MySQL lately because I have an interest in changing my career to a front end developer.

I've been doing the same to revive my "pet" site (I don't classify it as a pet because it's mechanical 😛) that I originally developed in the early 2000s.

I'm also learning how I can put it on the blockchain so that it can be a Web3 app and ownership of items and pets can be swapped. That won't be until I get everything down right though.

By your screenshot, you look like you're a lot further than me. Congrats!

Oh no I was just playing with the website structure none of that is really connected to my database. Except for the pet image, I finally got it to render my pet image from the separate layers i stored in the database. But everything else is just me playing with layout and placeholders. That sounds interesting though with the swapping of ownership definitely not something I've seen before.

Basically turning the pet site into an NFT... but not linked to real money, unless a 3rd party market is made for it (die hard users that want to swap things on the blockchain).

It would be moreso the case that the game is on the blockchain so that there is never an outage... No database corruption because the database is everywhere and verified by everyone. No downtime because the servers are everyone. It's probably a pipedream to get to that point without someone who understands blockvhain a lot more than me.

I'll just stick to UI and backend PHP/MySQL for now.
