The studio has told content creators bans could be issued for offensive behavior that occurs outside of its games.

Riot Games has issued a warning to its content creator community, stating that off-platform actions tied to its games are now subject to its terms of service. This means that offensive behavior on livestreams or other content involving titles like League of Legends and Valorant could result in in-game penalties.

The company clarified that creators who break its terms, whether through comments or actions during broadcasts, may face restrictions on their Riot accounts or have their Partner privileges revoked. While Riot won’t actively monitor all social media activity, it reserves the right to penalize creators if inappropriate content is flagged. For instance, if a creator uses hateful language on a stream but not directly in the game, Riot may still impose a penalty as though it occurred in-game.

The updated terms apply specifically to content featuring Riot’s games, but they also extend to actions that undermine the competitive integrity of its products. This includes behaviors like stream sniping or promoting services that violate Riot’s policies, such as account boosting or account trading.

Riot emphasized that content creators engaging in actions that promote rule-breaking could see their accounts suspended. This includes both direct promotions (like sponsored posts or streams) and informal conversations encouraging bad behavior. In severe cases, creators who flagrantly violate Riot’s rules could face permanent bans across all of the studio’s games.
