Social media sites are becoming very toxic every day. With so many of them becoming a political tool have made matters worst. With more people joining social media sites, so many are leaving because of how it badly affects their mental health.

Do you think enough is being done to stop cyber bullying?

Enough is not done to stop cyber bullying and enough is still not done in making it a hell of a place. I will just advise people to leave when they can't control what they see there or when their mental health is at risk.

The best thing to do when dealing with bullying on social media is to block the people who are causing harm. Don’t engage with negativity, it’s the quickest way to protect your mental health.

Social media can be a really negative place, but you have control over your account and your feed. If it gets too much, leaving is always an option, and I’d honestly recommend it if things are getting bad. Your mental health should always come first.

There’s no reason to stay in a toxic environment. Your well-being is far more important than anything else.

As long as the BLOCK FEATURE is available on any social media platform I make use of, I wouldn't worry about cyber bullies. Just like @cpvr pointed out, you have control over your account, who interact with you and what comes on your feeds, it's very easy to cut off those bullies without any stress.

I think for extreme cases, anonymity should be revoked!
People should know what those monsters can do behind those anonymous masks

I've ever been against the anonymous feature on social media sites especially on Facebook. Why grant someone an opportunity to hide under anonymous to torment others in the same social media?

I don't use social media all that much apart from Tiktok, YouTube... And couple of forums. I haven't logged into my Facebook account for at least 2 years... So....I never knew much about that anonymous stuff there.
Still, I do agree with that! No one should be spared when it comes to any form of bullying!

They’re not so anonymous on social media though. The social media platforms know exactly who’s behind those accounts as they have fingerprinting, location and tracking devices for every account.

Having the ability to mute and block is one of my favorite features. If someone is giving you a hard time on social media, then it’s best to report them, mute them and block them. It’s the only way to make your experience even better.

As long as you don’t feed into their bullying, you’ll have a better time on social media. They do run rampant on some platforms and it’s a tough thing to deal with.

Cyber bullying is a major issue and I think it's quite difficult to curtail it, but if anonymous features are taken out on social media, then action can be taken against the individual users. That way, it will be easier to track a bully.

How effective are some of those social media platforms support handle reports of accounts for bullying? I don't think they are doing much because I know how many times I reported accounts on Instagram for bully, Meta didn't lift a finger. It's just best to block those accounts and move on.

When it comes to cyberbullying, there should be an exact solution. Harassment is actually challenged by some platforms with stringent moderation and reporting systems. However, education and awareness can also work in mitigating bullying.
How about those who are bullies right in the educational system? I've had several experiences with many of them when I was in the university. Education didn't play any role in stopping them.

Maybe awareness would help but is it not when they want to listen to the awareness being created?

There should be strick rules and punishments for bullies. It's the only way to stop them, otherwise they will keep being disruptive in social media sites.

Twitter/X is the worst place they dominate. If one can survive bullies and toxic people on X, they can use any other social media sites with so much ease.
A place that trolling is like nothing to them. I have seen some comments and wonder if those behind the screen are humans because their comments are too cruel to read. I know how to stay on my lane and it have helped me.

That's another point right! Because education might not be sufficient to completely deal with cyber bullying. I think a multiple approach like combining education, awareness and issuing stricter policies on online platforms might work.

Sure enough, strict rules and strict punishments may work, but education or awareness on how cyberbulling affects individuals really matters. The users should also be empowered to report and support victims.

I just block annoying people. In the past I would waste my life on arguing but that has no effect and I am giving them more power. Simply block them and let them cry about it. People with no real achievements in life bothering others.

The thing is, most social media apps are ran by AI moderators, there isn't any actual moderators in place anymore. So reports are generally sent to their ai systems. So, it's best to block those users.

Social media used to be controlled by actual moderators, but they are not anymore. Facebook uses AI moderators for all of their apps as does Reddit somewhat, but they do have actual moderators in place in their communities. Twitter, well, it's owned by Musk. Who lets everything slide on his app.

Even Digg will have AI moderators in place when it launches, which is unfortunate. It sucks, but we are past the point of having actual real moderators on social media. They removed them a long time ago. The only thing you can do is, block them and remove them for your feed. That's what I do, and I'll continue to do it. You are in control of your social media accounts, you set the tone of it.

Do you know what I'm really thinking? Online bullying should be punishable by the law in a very strict way and not left for the social media site it happened to intervene. The Take It Down Act which was signed this May isn't enough.

It should definitely be punishable by law. The Take It Down Act mostly deals with fake videos and non-consensual intimate content, it doesn’t actually cover cyberbullying. So, a new law will need to be introduced to specifically address online bullying, because the current act just doesn’t cover it.

Laws are meant to protect us, but sometimes they fall short, especially when there’s no law yet for something like cyberbullying. Until then, people have to take control of their own accounts and do what’s best for their safety.

As far as I know, there hasn’t been any law introduced yet that truly tackles cyberbullying head-on, and that’s a problem.

For context, the Take It Down Act, signed into law on May 19, 2025, targets the sharing of non-consensual intimate images, including AI deepfakes and revenge porn. It criminalizes publishing or threatening to publish those images without consent, with penalties up to two years in prison. Platforms are also required to remove reported content within 48 hours and prevent it from coming back.

That’s important, but it doesn’t address bullying itself. Until cyberbullying is treated as its own crime, people will keep falling through the cracks.

The funny thing is that even when you report a social media post that actually is trying to bully another, staff of the social media don't even bother to look into it. I think social media platforms should deploy bots to help moderate social media contents that seem to bully another. B

Exactly! One shouldn't be bullying others with a hidden identity. Social media platforms should make it in a way that once the bullying starts getting out of hand, those anonymous accounts should be exposed.

Yes, you're right. There haven't been any law that specifically targeted online bullying and it's shocking till date, there's none. Is it that our government haven't deem it harmful enough to make a law against it?
