In the latest tech news, Google has announced that they’ll be purchasing Wiz for a $32 billion.

This move is a significant step to a better and much improved cloud security.

Google announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wizfor $32 billion, subject to closing adjustments, in an all-cash transaction. Once closed, Wiz will join Google Cloud.

Google acquire Wiz

This acquisition represents an investment by Google Cloud to accelerate two large and growing trends in the AI era: improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds.

Both cybersecurity and cloud computing are growing industries with a vast range of solutions. The increased role of AI, and adoption of cloud services, have changed the security landscape for customers, making cybersecurity increasingly important in defending against emergent risks and protecting national security.

Wiz delivers a platform that connects to all major clouds and code environments to help prevent cybersecurity incidents. Organizations of all sizes — from start-ups and large enterprises to governments and public sector organizations — can use Wiz to protect everything they build and run in the cloud. Wiz is an innovative leader and continues to deliver new products with strong adoption, fueling rapid business growth, including over the last 12 months in which it has begun to deliver new categories of cybersecurity solutions.

Google Cloud has deep AI expertise and a track record of security innovation. Bringing all this to Wiz will help make their solutions even better and more scalable, benefiting customers and partners across all major clouds. The combination of Google Cloud and Wiz will:

  • Vastly improve how security is designed, operated and automated — providing an end-to-end security platform for customers, of all types and sizes, in the AI era;
  • Scale cybersecurity teams by providing them an automated security platform;
  • Lower customers’ cost of implementing and managing security controls;
  • Protect against new threats emerging due to the advancement of AI, prevent breaches, and help organizations respond to breaches much more efficiently; and
  • Boost the adoption of multicloud security and, as a result, customers’ ability to use multiple clouds; further spurring innovation in and the adoption of cloud computing.
Wiz’s products will continue to work and be available across all major clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud platforms, and will be offered to customers through an array of partner security solutions. Google Cloud will also continue to offer customers wide choice through a variety of partner security solutions available in the Google Cloud Marketplace.

“From its earliest days, Google’s strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online. Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security solutions, and greater choice in cloud computing providers. Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will turbocharge improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google.

“Google Cloud and Wiz share a joint vision to make cybersecurity more accessible and simpler to use for organizations of any size and industry. Enabling more companies to prevent cyber attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organizations minimize the cost, disruption and hassle caused by cybersecurity incidents,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.

“Wiz and Google Cloud are fully committed to continue supporting and protecting customers across all major clouds, helping keep them safe and secure wherever they operate. This is an exciting moment for our company, but an even more important one for customers and partners, as this acquisition will bolster our mission to improve security and prevent breaches by providing additional resources and deep AI expertise,” said Assaf Rappaport, CEO, Wiz

Despite having only been founded in 2020, Wiz has been valued at $12 billion by its investors and has been eyeing an initial public offering.

Wiz reached $500 million in annual recurring revenue last year and is looking to cross $1 billion this year, executives have said.

What are your thoughts on Google purchase of Wiz? Do you think it’s a good move or a bad investment on Google’s part?

Where do you see Wiz heading from here?

Google's $32 billion acquisition of Wiz is a very large project and it's a good move for cloud security. The advanced platform from Wiz will essentially elevate Google's security capabilities, giving customers very rich capability and coverage. This deal is quite significant to the cloud security space as a whole.

I saw this update yesterday on CBS news. I was shocked.

I'm thinking what if Google turns and buys Tiktok?
That would be an interesting twist, but it wouldn’t be exactly possible as Youtube has the same features as Tiktok, so the government would more than likely block the deal from happening.
They must have seen something that interests them in the company, and they are going for a purchase.
They’re looking to increase their cloud infrastructure and become a leading powerhouse in the cloud industry. It’s similar to when Google purchased Youtube, they knew that the company would boast their bottomline and help their company grow.

Also have it in mind that Google are good at picking up a project and abandon it half way through. Maybe the money paid for this would make them take it serious.
Google didn't start today to pick up a project and abandon it and they have been paying huge sum of money too. If they want to take it serious, they know how and what to do. Google is a big company and I believe they are looking for a way to be the largest in cloud infrastructure.

They are wasting resources at times is what I don't like but I can't complain because it's not my money. I don't any single $1 shares with them.

That minding your business is the best thing to do. They should do anything they want with their money, of course it's theirs and overflowing 🤣

I don’t think they’re wasting money, especially considering that Wiz was growing rapidly before Google purchased the company. They secured significant funding and achieved a valuation of $1.7 billion. Cloud security is a major, rapidly expanding industry, and investing in it makes sense for Google.

Google knows exactly what they’re doing. Just like with YouTube, which they acquired and grew into a powerhouse, Google is likely to do the same with Wiz, leveraging its technology and customer base to strengthen Google Cloud’s security offerings.

Alphabet Inc. (Google’s parent company) has over $100 billion in cash and cash equivalents, so they certainly have plenty of resources to make these investments.

Google and Microsoft are two of the biggest companies that carry out their research extensively before buying any company up for sale. It's like how Microsoft acquired Activition Blizzard without anyone seeing it coming. It's exactly what Google did with acquiring Wiz for $32 billion.

It will be a great asset to Google because Wiz could be integrated into Blogger and that would be a creative development. I really hope that Google takes this project more seriously than the previous ones.
I don't think Google is just going to throw in $32 billion into a project they wouldn't be serious with. It's almost very close to the amount Elon Musk paid for Twitter/X. He took X very serious after acquiring the ownership.

This Google’s multi-cloud strategy is set to help and meet their customers needs and also expand more in the market. I think it's going to be a big win-win for Google and their clients.
