Does being broke make you feel depressed?

There are many things which can make someone feel depressed. It's an established fact that series of abuse is capable of making someone feel depressed but it's not only what causes depression.

Have you ever been completely broke? Did you feel depressed?
 
No, being broke doesn’t cause depression for me. Money isn’t tied to my moods or my self-worth like that especially considering that Money comes and goes. It’s only temporary.

There’s always going to be another shot to earn more eventually as I’ve been through it before, and I know it doesn’t last forever.


As long as I’ve got a roof over my head and food to eat, I’m perfectly fine. Being broke isn’t ideal, sure, but it’s not something that breaks me.

Yes for sure!
To be honest, I thought of purchasing a house by now and even now I feel really bad whenever I think about it... However I know I will own one in the next year or two... But still it's just a long way to go! Not to mention the long years of repaying the house loan
 
I basically live paycheck to paycheck but it doesn't make me depressed but sometimes it makes me anxious. I was way worse when I was younger though, and my wife and I were living on our own. It's too expensive to live on your own these days though, and my wife currently doesn't have a job.

How can I not be depressed and desperate when I can't afford even a meal to eat? Being broke is the worst thing which can happen to anyone.

I really hope things will get better and hope your wife finds a really good job soon.
I know people who are drowning in debts but still doesn't acknowledge that and try to borrow even more money to fund their relatives interests. It's kinda pathetic... But they think it's the purest form of help. If you can't even care for your own family....I think you are nothing but a failure..... Well that's just how I feel anyway (_ _)/

Yourself and your immediate family comes first in everything you're doing that involves finance and taking care of them. Doing anything outside when you're not financially stable and independent, it's a misplaced priority.

Exactly but sometimes people fail to understand that.
My dad couldn't make time for my graduation ceremony but he was there for most of my cousin's celebrations....

This was wrong of him! It's definitely negligence from him if you ask me.

Did you ever get to ask him why he didn't care about your graduation ceremony?

To be honest, he was never there for me and my sister.... Even for my mom.
But he was always there for his parents and for his three sisters and their families....I used to get really hurt but... Now I don't really care all that much... As I got lots of love from my mom ^^
He is a good guy and everyone knows my dad but he is just different with us. He never got us any birthday gifts .... But even now... I do get something for him along with my sister. I don't want people to badmouth him as in our culture... Slight disrespect to the elders is not tolerated.

It's just that... In that ceremony I won a medal..a silver one.. I was really close to getting a gold one but I sprained my ankle in the last semester
.. Oh well.
The gold medallist didn't get a single offer from any company and I got three! Sorry may be... I am a bit jealous and disappointed even now (0v0)

It is not always easy to have this kind of experience where a dad is not there for the kids. As a potential father, I wouldn't want to make this mistake at all. To have a dad who is not supporting the kids at all times is a tough experience.

If I may ask, how have you been trying to make things look better since then?

Well, I am kinda embarrassed to say....I don't think I have achieved anything in my life.
I have been trying to buy a house but thanks to the scam and migrating to another country...I never had enough savings.
When I thought I could finally get a house this year...I am being forced to migrate yet again to my home country.... So...I am just too depressed these days ;_;
