Snapchat Plus subscribers now have a unique feature to design their own virtual homes for display on the Snap Map. These personalized houses can be viewed at any time on the map by the user and anyone with whom they share their location.

The customization options are diverse, ranging from modest shacks to lavish multistory mansions and castles. This feature enhances the appeal of user locations, replacing the usual bland gray cuboid structures with more inviting and personalized designs. Currently, the primary purpose of this feature is to add value to the Snapchat Plus subscription, offering subscribers a little extra for their monthly fee.

Could this be a precursor to something bigger? Imagine an augmented reality experience akin to Pokémon Go, but more like Animal Crossing, where you can play interior decorator and invite friends over for a virtual visit. This feature could add a fun social element, making your virtual home a new status symbol, more engaging than a simple blue checkmark.

Additionally, Snapchat Plus members will soon see their pets accompany their Bitmoji while typing in chats and will be able to post ultra-short Snaps that expire in as little as 0.1 seconds. All users will have access to a “mirror” feature, allowing them to see themselves through their phone’s selfie camera while customizing their Bitmoji. There are also new AI lenses on the way, including one that transforms you into a five-year-old version of yourself, which could be useful for those without childhood photos.
